Our 9-day, 4-country journey began in the capital city of Croatia - Zagreb. While the city itself didn't offer us a plethora of activities, its strategic location made it the perfect starting point for our broader exploration, for our planned visit to Slovenia.
Zagreb’s public transport is reliable and well-connected.
Consider purchasing a day pass if you plan to explore various parts of the
city. For those interested in cultural experiences, Zagreb boasts a rich array
of museums scattered throughout the city, offering a deep dive into the
country's history and art.
To kick off our adventure, we decided to take a leisurely
stroll through some of Zagreb's most picturesque spots. Our first stop was Park
Kralja Tomislava, a serene green space perfect for a relaxing walk. The park is
named after the first king of Croatia and is a popular spot for both locals and
tourists.
From there, we made our way to the Twin Fountains, two
beautiful structures that add a touch of elegance to the city’s landscape. The
fountains are a great spot for some photos and a brief respite before heading
towards the bustling city center.
As we wandered through the streets, we found ourselves at
the main city center, a vibrant area filled with shops, cafes, and historical
landmarks. One of the city's most significant landmarks is the Zagreb
Cathedral, an architectural marvel that stands tall with its twin spires.
Unfortunately, the cathedral was undergoing construction due to damage
sustained from the 2020 earthquake, but we’ve heard it’s an absolute must-see
when fully restored.
As the travel fatigue from our long journey started to set
in, we decided to end our day early. We returned to our hotel to rest and
recharge for our drive to Slovenia the next morning.
