Exploring Dubrovnik and Lokrum: A Game of Thrones Adventure

As avid fans of Game of Thrones, our excitement was palpable as we set out to explore the Old City of Dubrovnik, famously known as King'sLanding. Our journey began with a short 15-20 minute Uber ride from our hotel in Srebreno to the historic Pile Gate. Upon arrival, we purchased a 3-day pass for the city walls, which conveniently included free bus rides within Dubrovnik.

Entering the Old City, we decided to start with the iconic city walls. This 2km walk offers stunning views and takes a few hours to complete. The panoramic vistas of the Old City, Fort Lovrijenac (the Red Keep), the Adriatic Sea, its beautiful beaches, and Lokrum Island were absolutely breathtaking. Along the way, we made a stop at the famous Buza Bar, a "hole in the wall" spot where we watched adventurous souls leap off cliffs into the ocean below.

After our walls tour, we ventured to Fort Lovrijenac, a short walk from the Old City. Be prepared for a bit of a climb - 300 stairs to the top - but the effort is well worth it. The fort’s towering presence brought back vivid memories of the Red Keep scenes from Game of Thrones.

Next, we strolled through the picturesque streets on the north side of the Old City, eventually arriving at the Rector’s Palace. Behind the palace, the Dubrovnik Old Town Port awaited, offering ferry rides to LokrumIsland, the stand-in for the City of Qarth in the series.

A quick 15-minute ferry ride whisked us to Lokrum Island, a haven of natural beauty and historical intrigue. We explored the Monastery, Botanical Garden, Fort Royal, and the island's Dead Sea. The island's true charm lies in its resident peacocks and peahens, who strut and perch around visitors. For those seeking a swim, there are numerous spots with crystal-clear waters inviting you in.

After returning to Dubrovnik, we decided to unwind at Sunset Beach in Lapad, a favorite among locals and just a 10-minute bus ride from the Old City. Thanks to our city walls pass, the bus ride was free. Sunset Beach, with its lovely promenade and serene atmosphere, was the perfect place to relax after a day of exploration.

Our day in Dubrovnik, Lokrum, and Lapad was nothing short of extraordinary, living up to the hype of this renowned tourist destination. With memories of King's Landing and Qarth fresh in our minds, we prepared to rest for our early start the next morning to Montenegro.

Dubrovnik and Lokrum offered a magical experience, blending the rich history of the real world with the enchanting allure of Westeros. Whether you're a Game of Thrones fan or simply a lover of stunning landscapes, this destination promises an unforgettable adventure.
