Getting from Split to Dubrovnik: A Day of History, Culture, and Scenic Beauty in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Excited for our adventure, we departed from Split at 9:30 AM in a comfortable and affordable private taxi. Our driver, Antonio (from Mostar), was a delightful guide, offering numerous options for sightseeing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on our way to Dubrovnik.

After about two and a half hours, we arrived at Stari Most(The Old Bridge) in Mostar’s East Town. This historic bridge, which was damaged during the war but has since been restored, is a sight to behold. It was fascinating to watch people jump from the bridge into the Neretva River. For those seeking more adventure, speed boat rides are available. The cobblestone streets on both sides of the river are lined with excellent restaurants and souvenir shops. We indulged in the traditional cuisine for lunch, which we highly recommend for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Dining with a view of the Old Bridge and the river was a highlight. History enthusiasts might also enjoy visiting the War and Genocide Museum.

Next, we headed to Tekija Blagaj, a Dervish house from the 15th century. This location is a must-see, featuring the source of the Buna River and a stunning waterfall. If you love waterfalls and perhaps fancy a swim, consider visiting Kravica Falls, which is not far from here.

Our journey continued to Pocitelj Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We hiked up to the fort, rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. The climb was invigorating, and the vistas were well worth the effort.

After our visit to the fortress, we drove straight to Dubrovnik. The drive took us through charming small towns and picturesque vineyards along the Neretva River, which eventually merges with the Adriatic Sea. As we crossed into Croatia, the coastal drive along the Adriatic Sea offered unbelievable views, enhancing our excitement for the destination.

We arrived at our hotel in Srebreno around 7 PM, eagerly anticipating our exploration of King’s Landing (Dubrovnik) the next day.

This drive from Split to Dubrovnik was a journey through history, culture, and stunning landscapes. Each stop offered unique experiences, making it an unforgettable adventure. If you're planning a trip to this region, we highly recommend taking this route for a perfect blend of sightseeing and scenic beauty.
